I graduated from Brock University with an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology in June 2009. Aside from my education at Brock, I am also a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
My training experience began at age 16 baseball playing for travel teams around southern Ontario in the hopes of landing an athletic scholarship. Staying in Canada to go to university lead to the end of my competitive baseball career though as I couldn’t crack my university team. A year later, I made what turned out to be quite the life-altering decision as I chose to get a personal training certification instead of going out for baseball tryouts again.
Since then I spent 4 months interning then working at SST in Burlington — a private sports performance facility. Here I received a wealth of experience training athletes from middle school up through the CFL and NHL, soccer moms and hockey dads, and weekend warriors. It was at SST that I got exposed to the real world of strength & conditioning, and since that first day I have been hooked. In the spring of 2009 after finishing up my last year of undergrad, I earned a position as a strength coach for a new SST franchise in Vaughan, Ontario where I was responsible for program design for high school hockey and football players.
In October, I moved on from SST and began working as a contractor for Personal Trainer Toronto, where I now train clients mostly for fat loss or general fitness goals, which is providing a different and exciting challenge which will further my growth as a fitness professional.
On this blog you will find me providing commentary on things I am learning about the field or how to succeed in the field, hot topics related to fitness and nutrition, as well as some occasional introspection on my professional life. I hope you enjoy following along on this journey, and I encourage you to place comments at the bottom of the posts if you’d like to know more or if you feel that you have some points which will add to the discussion.
